The EFP Story
Our Mission...
Our mission is to provide an emergency response to the nutritional needs of people in crisis hunger situations throughout Seattle and King County. We are dedicated to alleviating hunger while providing individuals with resource counseling to help move them towards independence. Our goal is to provide a proactive, non-traditional approach to food assistance that will eventually lead to self-reliance for individuals in need of services. Nearly half of all meals go to children.
Food banks have limited service hours and eligibility restrictions. The EFP model meets the needs of people in immediate crisis, with no wait time or restrictions. We collaborate with social service agencies, food banks, schools, public health clinics, and faith communities to make food accessible when and where people need it.
At EFP we recognize that households differ in size and taste. We offer 15 varieties of nonperishable food packs, designed by professional nutritionists, to meet a wide array of individual needs. Our Latino, Asian, Vegan, and East African packs provide foods that are both culturally appropriate, familiar, comforting, and healthy. We deliver diabetic-friendly, low-sugar packs, heart-healthy low-sodium packs and even high-protein liquid packs. At EFP we even have food for folks with medical restrictions. We also include "no cook" foods for the homeless individual. And not to be forgotten are packs for babies that include a week's supply of infant formula.
Hunger is always symptomatic of a deeper matrix of other issues, such as domestic violence, illness, job loss, underemployment, and homelessness to name a few. Hunger is frequently the reason people seek help. That's why anyone who receives an EFP food pack also receives valuable information on where to go for help to address more complex issues.
